She needed a cup of coffee, really bad. It had been a long night of worry but with the sun starting to peek on the horizon she was hoping that her prayers had been answered. Holding his hand and stroking his face with a cooling cloth had kept her body busy in the here and now, her mind however had been roaming the years both forward as well as backward. Would the doctors have something new and promising to tell her today? Was there indeed hope after this long process in his supposed healing? She didn’t know and wondered if they did as well. Married 40 years…so long a time but actually so little. It was more that she wanted. More information, more hope, more years together. She had no answers as she turned and gazed at him sleeping peacefully, as if a new day was nothing special to get excited about. With a heavy sigh, she put on her coat and headed out for the caffeine fix that would start her day. It was time for some fresh air, get out of the hospital for a while, perhaps a walk to Alder’s Diner, down the road, would be the salve she needed to begin healing of her own heart.
